Once again this year, a great time was had by all at the Coldwater Legion’s annual Newfie Day on August 15, 2026, where some guests had the honour of being “Screeched-in”! LADIES' AUXILIARY SUNDAY BREAKFASTS
On Sunday August 16, 2026, our Branch 270 Ladies’ Auxiliary held its third monthly Sunday Breakfast of the summer. These special Sunday Breakfasts have so far been a tremendous success. ANOTHER "CENTENARY" OPEN HOUSE AT THE LEGION
On Sunday, July 19, the branch held another Open House to welcome more Centenary Members. In this year of celebrations of the Royal Canadian Legion's Centenary, the branch is planning more of these Open Houses, as more members join in. Some of the guests at this latest Open House were coming to be initiated as new members of the Legion – and the Coldwater branch, joining under the special Centenary year programme for 2026. DRUMHEAD SERVICE IN COLDWATER
On Sunday June 7, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 270 Coldwater was host to a Legion Drumhead Service organized by District 'E' Legion personnel. Dozens of Legionnaires from branches throughout the district met in Coldwater to take part in this important event. Led by the Midland Pipes & Drums, the formation of Legionnaires marched with flags and banners though the streets of Coldwater before stopping at the Cenotaph to lay down the drums for the actual Drumhead ceremony. The Branch has received applications from 110 new Centenary members to date. Many thanks to the Membership Committee for their assistance processing these applications and helping update the member files for current members. COLDWATER DUCK RACE DAY
On Saturday May 30, hundreds of people gathered in Coldwater for the annual Lions Duck Race Parade. As per tradition, a Colour Party from Royal Canadian Legion Branch 270 Coldwater led the parade, with many of our members involved in supporting the event in various roles. And then, of course, people got to watch thousands of little rubber ducks float down the Coldwater River and compete to get their "owner" one of the great prizes. HONOURS & AWARDS AT BRANCH 270
On Tuesday May 26, 2026, during our monthly General Meeting, the branch held an Honours & Awards ceremony to present several Legion Years of Service pins, Certificates of Merit, Past Office medals and Bars, and the Legionnaire of the Year 2026 Award to Comrade John O'Hara. COLDWATER BRANCH ELECTIONS
Comrades of Branch 270 Coldwater, the membership has spoken. On Sunday May 3, 2026, the Coldwater Branch held its annual elections for a president, two vice-presidents, and three executive members. Congratulations go to Comrades Paula Brown, Michele Blunt, and Debbie Southorn, who were acclaimed as members of the Executive; to Comrades John O'Hara and Al Myre, respectively 1st and 2nd Vice-Presidents; and to Comrade Kari Malmström, also acclaimed as our returning President.


BATTLE OF THE ATLANTIC COMMEMORATED
On May 3, 2026, members of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 270 Coldwater gathered at the Coldwater Cenotaph to lay a wreath in remembrance of the Battle of the Atlantic. Fought between September 1939 and May 1945, the Battle of the Atlantic was the longest continuous battle of the Second World War. In Canada it is commemorated each year on the first Sunday in May. BRANCH MEMBERS RECOGNIZED BY TOWNSHIP OF SEVERN
Congratulations to Coldwater Branch Public Relations Officer and Branch Historian Norm Marion who was awarded the provincial Senior of the Year Award for Severn Township by Mayor Mike Burkett at a ceremony on April 22, at the township office. Norm conducted extensive research into First and Second World War casualties and helped honour the men and women who served, while preserving an important part of the town's history for future generations.
