RCL Branch 270 in Coldwater Receives Assistance Funding from Federal Government
RCL BRANCH 270 IN COLDWATER RECEIVES ASSISTANCE FUNDING FROM FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
Coldwater, Ontario - The Executive of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 270, are pleased to announce that the Coldwater Legion has recently received the final portion of a grant that totaled more than $15,000 from the federal government. The Veterans Organizations Emergency Support Fund grant received by the Legion will help in covering operational costs and financial shortfalls as a result of COVID-19 health restrictions.
Veterans’ organizations, such as RCL Branch 270, are experiencing a critical loss of event, charitable and fundraising revenues as a direct result of COVID-19. They play a critical role in the lives and well-being of Veterans and their families, as well as providing extraordinary service to our communities. Legions host Remembrance Day observances and other commemorative events throughout the year, not only to honour fallen comrades, but also to educate Canadian youth about the past and the bravery of our soldiers. They are also community venues where marriages are celebrated, summer BBQs are enjoyed, and loved ones’ lives are commemorated.
According to Simcoe North M.P. Bruce Stanton, “this special grant is greatly needed as in most cases; Legion branches do not qualify under any of the existing Covid-19 assistance programs. “My party has been actively encouraging this support for Legions and other Veteran’s organizations at this critical time and I am pleased the government agreed to put this support in place.” said Stanton.
Legion President Normand Marion on behalf of the Executive and Members of RCL Branch 270 Coldwater would like to thank Veterans Affairs Canada and the Federal Government for the funding received that will be used to support the Branch and its role in supporting Veterans and the community.
